November 28 (SeeNews) - Swedish floating wind technology firm SeaTwirl AB is planning to raise SEK 24 million (USD 2.6m/EUR 2.5m) gross on Nasdaq First North to support the development of a full-scale, 1-MW vertical axis wind turbine. Since 2015, a vertical-axis wind turbine has been bobbing in the water just outside Lysekil. With a rotor diameter of 10 metres, the SeaTwirl S1 turbine has stood up to the harsh climate of the Swedish west coast for three years. “A verticalaxis turbine provides power irrespective of wind direction. SeaTwirl deployed a 30-kW S1 floating wind turbine off the coast of Lysekil in July 2015, which has since been going through tests there. In May this year, it entered into a cooperation agreement with German engineering group Siemens AG (ETR:SIE) that should help SeaTwirl achieve its goal of launching a commercial size turbine in 2020.

Based on the experience from SeaTwirl S1, the development of SeaTwirl S2, a wind turbine with 1 MW installed turbine power, was started, Willén continues. Today SeaTwirl is constantly growing, counting 13 full time employees, as well as numerous sub-contractors for specific work packages.
The SeaTwirl S2 follows up on the S1 model (pictured below) a 30kW prototype of which was installed off the coast of Lysekil in July 2015, “by a small and ambitious group on a limited budget SeaTwirl designs floating wind turbines built for deep sea deployment. The ambition is to provide the most cost effective product for the production of renewable energy. By evaluating a 30 kW grid-connected floating wind turbine prototype in Lysekil Sweden, knowledge will be generated which will become necessary for future products that will be in the 10 MW class.
